YOOL is an independent, action-oriented, registered non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO). Established in February 2010, YOOL focuses on providing humanitarian assistance, climate change and environmental protection, governance, and capacity-building services, and mobilization. The organization also supports livelihoods, shelters, and training to help individuals transition out of internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.
Driven by the belief that young people are crucial to society’s success, YOOL was founded by a group of local civil society and development activists. They envisioned creating a platform where young people could unlock their full potential and contribute meaningfully to their communities. ‘YOOL’ is a Somali word meaning ‘objective’ or ‘goal,’ reflecting the organization’s mission and vision.
YOOL is committed to nationwide efforts that empower young people and IDPs to actively participate in political processes. It aims to see them become a driving force for positive change in Somalia’s state-building efforts.
